itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>General Student Staff Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Staff Members for University Housing should:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have and maintain a 2.5 GPA for each term and a 2.5 culmlative GPA while employed<\/li>\n<li>Be in good judicial standing with the University and University Housing<\/li>\n<li>Have a positive attitude about the work that they do<\/li>\n<li>Conduct themselves in a professional manner<\/li>\n<li>Alternate employment may be limited depending on position<\/li>\n<li>Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information<\/li>\n<li>All positions are contingent upon completion of a successful background check<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><br \/>\nThis position is designated as a critical, security-sensitive or safety-sensitive position and therefore, requires the successful completion of a Criminal Background Check and adherence to confidentiality agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner both verbally and in writing.<\/p>\n<p>The University Housing department expects its staff members to find a successful balance between academics and the student staff position and is concerned about the academic success of its staff members. Therefore, student staff must be enrolled as a full-time student and remain in good academic standing by maintaining a term and cumulative grade point average of 2.50 while fulfilling the requirements and obligations of an Âé¶¹´«Ã½ student.<br \/>\nStudent Staff Members may not hold any position on Area Council or any compensated position within the Residence Hall Association.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Special Characteristics<\/strong><br \/>\nJob requires 18-20 hours per week (NOTE: Students with multiple jobs can only work a combined maximum of 20 hours each week).<br \/>\nWork may be required on weekends, hours of work may vary.<br \/>\nWork environment involves frequent interruptions and the delivery of documentation across campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conditions<\/strong><br \/>\nA student staff member will not be placed on academic, judicial, or performance probation more than once during the entire term of employment with University Housing. If it becomes necessary to put the staff member on probation a second time during employment, the staff member may be terminated.<\/p>\n<p>Student staff members are expected to be in compliance with the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Student Code of Conduct, University Housing Contract, city ordinances, and state and federal laws.<br \/>\nThe University Housing Department expects student staff to serve as positive role models to residents and within the community. Therefore, a student staff member must remain in good standing (academic, judicial, and performance) with Âé¶¹´«Ã½ and University Housing at all times during their employment. Staff members that fail to remain in good standing could receive sanctions including but not limited to probation, termination, and\/or deduction in their compensation.<\/p>\n<p>In order to develop as a paraprofessional and maintain positive working teams, staff are required to attend training sessions, assist with staff selection processes, be responsible for the information provided in the Student Staff Training Manual, attend weekly staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with supervisor, and in-service training sessions. Exceptions to miss any part of training must have a direct academic connection and will be considered for approval by your supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>In order to foster and maintain positive levels of trust, student staff must be professional and discreet with sensitive and confidential information. Use of electronic devices and files provided by University Housing (phone, tablet, etc.) are reserved for the purposes of University Housing employment responsibilities only.<\/p>\n<p>The student staff member understands that this employment agreement is a general statement of duties and does not specifically cover every duty of their position. The student staff member understands the supervisor of their area will provide them with more specific expectations during each term with what will be expected to comply. Their primary responsibility is to act as a facilitator for the residence hall community and to enhance the social, educational, and cultural development of each of their residents, which typically includes planning and hosting events within the residence halls. The RA works to help students through challenges and helps celebrate their successes. They serve on a nightly duty rotation to assist students with a variety of concerns and to keep the residence halls safe and secure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community Facilitator<\/li>\n<li>Be available and accessible to floor residents. RAs should plan weekly contact hours with residents.<\/li>\n<li>Know all of their residents by name within the first three weeks of each term.
